The uniforms for "above-wing" staff, such as Airport Customer Service ticket and gate agents, as well as Delta Sky Club and In-Flight Service employees, were conceived by fashion designer and Project Runway judge Zac Posen, known for dressing celebrities like Claire Danes, Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Watts.
Non-customer-facing employees will also have new uniforms, designed by retailer Land's End with consultation from Posen. "Fit, form, function and style are all integral to the uniforms for Delta staff, and Lands' End is the right partner to deliver on these things".
Delta says that the design "fuses together bold color palettes and classic styles, while paying homage to the heritage and iconic design from decades past to elevate the look and brand of Delta employees". The accent colors, red ("cruising cardinal"), dark grey ("groundspeed graphite") and light grey ("skyline slate") may be a little more familiar.
The final uniform designs were influenced by the employees who will wear them, ensuring their functionality.
Posen partnered directly with Delta employees from almost every work group to design the collection, developing a functional wardrobe fit for Delta's diverse employee group and the environments where they work. Men will wear a three-piece suit in graphite and a crew-neck sweater in plum with a tie featuring a Delta logo print.

One-thousand "employee ambassadors" will test out the uniforms starting in December and suggest tweaks before the gear rolls out to all in 2018, the company said.
Ramp agents and technicians also get in on the fun, with updated jackets and polo shirts. The last broad overhaul of uniforms for Delta's frontline workers came in 2006.
