New Baltimore Sgt. Thomas Johannes described Rose as a "true hero" and said his passing is "being felt here deeply".
The prosecutor says he was "respected" and "admired".
Rose, a five-year campus police veteran, underwent surgery late on Wednesday night but died from his injuries. "We can honor Collin's memory best with our ongoing gratitude and support for all of our officers". The police officer was in critical condition at the time of this reporting. Making a Murderer's Brendan Dassey to Be Released From Custody
However, former Wisconsin state prosecutor Ken Kratz reprimanded the series, which appeared to point to Avery's innocence. Given that his family lives in north-east Wisconsin , there is little chance Mr Dassey will try to flee, the judge said .
Rose is the first Wayne State University police officer to be fatally shot, and one of only two to be shot since the 1970s. Officer Rose called for back up at 6:31 p.m. while he was attempting to take Davis into custody. Police have described the shooting as an "ambush", but said it doesn't appear he was targeted. He died Wednesday evening in a hospital. MI highway officers gave his parents an escort so they could be with their son, Lockwood said.
Rose previously worked as a cadet with the New Baltimore Police Department. He was engaged to be married in October 2017.
Police arrested the man without incident about three blocks from where the shooting happened, Detroit Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt said.
