When Rams exec Kevin Demoff took the podium to discuss Fisher's dismissal, St. Louis FOX affiliate FOX 2 took the opportunity to subtitle Demoff as not only the team's chief operating officer but also "Professional Liar".
With the Rams spiraling toward their fifth consecutive losing season under Fisher in their first year back in Los Angeles after a 21-year absence, the timing of Fisher's contract extension - reportedly for two years - was curious.
"This was exclusively based on performance", said Kevin Demoff, Rams executive vice president of football operations, during a news conference Monday.
With Fisher now gone, the Rams have picked special teams coordinator John Fassel to fill the interim role.
The Rams' final three games are all against divisional opponents, starting with a Thursday night one on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. "I am not mad at him", Dickerson said.
They traded up for the first selection in this year's draft and took California's Jared Goff, but he rode the bench for much of the season behind journeyman Case Keenum as Los Angeles jumped out to a 3-1 start. Fisher's career record as a head coach in the National Football League is 173-165-1. But Rams fans were skeptical of Fisher given his 27-34 record in four seasons in St Louis and immediately began wondering why the team couldn't start fresh in LA with a new coach.
Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Fourth Ballon d'Or
Ronaldo is with Real Madrid in Japan to play in FIFA's Club World Cup. "I am one of them, and that is a source of pride for me". Cristiano Ronaldo has been named victor of the Ballon d'Or by France Football magazine for a fourth time on Monday.
Fisher's sacking shouldn't come as too big a surprise, if not for the fact that in an industry that churns out coaches like a NutriBullet fresh out the box, he's made a career of building respectable yet unsuccessful teams. This was not easy. But when the Los Angeles Rams finally turned on Jeff Fisher, they moved quickly and resolutely.
The Rams were smart to fire Fisher. I was embarrassed to see the Rams because Fisher had no Passion in him what so ever. It is not yet clear who the Rams have in mind will be the new coach of the team. Well Eric Dickerson has weighed in, Now it's my turn.
Well, at least he was right about something: He's not going 7-9 this year. I really did, but you will be back with a new coach next season and that's what you guys need. He then returned to the Los Angeles franchise in 2012 as its head coach.
The NFL's all-time single-season rusher says his criticism of team is what fans wanted him to say. Even if it means he has to go Chuckie on them and use some colorful language to do it. It'll likely lead toward an innovative offensive mind to foster the development of Goff, who's predictably struggled out of the gate with a frightful offensive line, receiving arsenal and inexperienced offensive staff. I don't like the man personally because he's a whines like a little sissy girl.
"I don't think this move is created to appease the fans in a short moment", Demoff said.
Dickerson said that he did not necessarily want Fisher to get fired, but his Twitter timeline suggested otherwise.
