Many think of Christmas as Christian, and therefore offensive to non-Christians, but a vast majority of non-Christian Americans celebrate the holiday. They simply want to sell to a broad group of consumers, many of whom aren't Christian. They found usage of "Merry Christmas" still common, especially in areas that were key to Trump's primary and general election wins.
