Keith Avila, who had barely surpassed his one-month mark with Uber, picked up two women and a girl from Oak Park with the intention of taking them to a hotel in Elk Grove. The police arrested 25 year old Destiny Pettway and 31 year old Maria Westley for pimping when they arrived at the hotel.
Then the conversation between the two women in the backseat tipped him off further, he said.
In a drive that took less than 15 minutes, Uber driver Keith Avila first noticed the girl in the front seat - who he took for 12 years old -was wearing a very short skirt that did not seem age appropriate, he told KCRA in Sacramento. "When you're hugging them just ask if they have any weapons - pat them down, pat them down while you're hugging him". Say 'Do you have my donation?' Get the donation first. She had this face of innocence, and like insecure, ' he told KTRK. Elk Grove police spokesman Chris Trim praised Avila's quick thinking, telling KOVR: "He listened in depth and in fact even knew what room they were going to and that helped our officers". She told NBC Latino the incident in which Avila intervened has moved them to educate their child about the dangers of trafficking. "Not when you're doing child sex trafficking", he said.
Avila dropped the women off to their destination and then immediately called the police.
Pettway and Westley were both arrested and charged with pimping and pandering.

"I think this is a flawless example of the community coming together and recognizing that something is not right", said Beth Hassett, CEO of WEAVE, which serves victims of domestic and sexual abuse in Sacramento County. "Went on his way, collected his fare".
The casualty was found to be a runaway, and she was sent to remain in an "option lodging circumstance" until her folks or watchmen could be found, police said.
