Dhoni took up the charge as the captain of the Indian team in 2007. "In my mind, my last series was the South African series in India (October 2015)".
He said: "Right from the start, when I left Test captainship, I knew split captaincy doesn't work in India, doesn't work in our set-up. For the team there has to be only one leader", Dhoni said addressing a press conference.
When asked is it hard for him to captain a side having senior players, Kohli said it is a privilege and there is a lot of mutual respect in the change (dressing) room.
The India-England ODI series begins on January 15 at the MCA Stadium in Pune, and all eyes are on the playing surface.
But now that Dhoni has relinquished Indian captaincy, will he revert to his old hairstyle and aggressive playing methods? "I told him to be more careful with field positioning".
"I was waiting for the right time".
Microsoft Studios & Platinum Games' Scalebound has been cancelled
Created to be exclusive to Microsoft, it was hoped it would drive gamers to the Xbox One over other consoles. When they returned, the game, per The Verge , was even more behind schedule than before.
"That's the kind of potential they have, that's the kind of experience they have", Dhoni said in Pune, in the lead up to the ODI series against England, Kohli's first assignment as full time limited-overs captain.
The flawless finish may have eluded him as his team lost by three wickets, but Dhoni, in a video chat with Yuvraj Singh, assured fans that he would continue to hit those trademark sixes if they are there to be hit. But, at the end of the day, you can give only a few games to an individual. A lot of people were like why did I quit midseries in Australia, but you have to look at the bigger picture. Now that I can't be the Test captain, I don't think my views should change.
The swashbuckling right-handed batsman, who is well known for his calm and composed character, also said he doesn't regret anything in his life. That always gave me a mindset of doing things my way and finding a way to make it work, as there is no one way to do anything. I had said this couple of years ago that he would be back in the team once Dhoni wasn't the captain.
"Because I was the captain, I always felt because it was hard for newcomers to come and bat at six or seven, I should be the person who takes that added responsibility of playing lower down the order", he said.
"But I would love to see him bat higher up than where he has been over the years. Anything happens to you, happens for a reason and happens at a right time in your life", he added.
Dhoni said as captain his aim was always to finish off the games. "We have to try and get used to those communications". Now, even if I am made to play number 4, 5, 6, or 7, whatever helps the team, that's what I'd do.
