Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool may have "run out of legs" after witnessing Southampton progress to next month's EFL Cup final at the expense of his former club.
He acknowledged that "creating these big chances is really difficult" against a Southampton team that plays so well defensively, but said they "did it" and that they "all know" they "usually score in situations like this".
That seems even more pertinent now as the pervading mood around Anfield is one of despondency, having seen the side fall from top of the Premier League in November.
"If we would doubt the way we are after these little, little problems we've had now, it would really be a unusual thing", he said.
Liverpool have won only one of their last seven games in all competitions, with the victory in question being in the FA Cup against League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle.
"We don't have the points we want, that's not the problem, that's how it is", Klopp said after Wednesday's defeat.

Klopp, whose side face Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, insists the squad have the qualities to counteract opponents' stone-walling tactics which have sent the Reds' season into a tailspin.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has warned the Anfield class of 2016-17 that "a team doesn't win the Premier League shipping goals in the way they do".
One thing we should expect is a tough and tight game, so patience could be crucial.
Nicol believes a lack of clean sheets will end up costing Klopp's side dear, with it hard to see how they can force their way back into the title picture. The return of Henderson is a big boost and I think that will inspire the team going forward as he is a great leader.
"Not every team is playing like this (against Liverpool) but quite a lot - 70, 80 per cent of the games are like this".
Klopp can point to mitigating factors, such as the absence of Sadio Mane through the Africa Cup of Nations, the freakish row with Cameroon over Joel Matip and the drop off in form of those brought in to carry out his high-pressing game.
