A member of the Navy's elite SEAL Team Six was killed during a January 28 counter-terrorism raid in Yemen.
On Sunday, U.S. Central Command reported the first counterterror operation carried out under approval by President Trump. "We saw during this operation as it was taking place that female fighters ran to pre-established positions as though they had trained to be ready". Trump has pledged to wage a more aggressive campaign against militant groups worldwide.
During the raid, a V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft that was assisting in the operation crash-landed at a nearby location, resulting in an additional service member injury, said a USA official, who wasn't authorized to speak publicly on the secret mission.
The raid marked the first known counterterrorism operation and first confirmed combat fatality under President Trump.
It is believed the slain service member was killed in a firefight with militants.
U.S. commandos are reported to have carried out a major raid in central Yemen against al-Qaeda forces.
The raid, in a remote desert area of Yemen's Shabwa governorate, aimed to obtain intelligence information, including computer material, that was thought to be linked to planning for external attacks.

The spokesman made the remarks after a TV interview where Trump said he supports the torture of terror suspects. She also said she extended an invitation to visit England on behalf of the queen and that Trump has accepted.
Unnamed Yemeni security officials were quoted as saying troops were brought in by aircraft in al-Baida province.
A U.S. soldier has died during a raid on an al-Qaeda militant base in central Yemen, according to officials.
Al-Qaeda officials told AP that 30 men, women and children were also killed in the raid.
Forces loyal to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi have mounted offensives against jihadists in the south, but the militants remain active in several areas. A lengthy battle followed, as the militants opened fire on the USA soldiers.
"Since they were ejected out of Mukalla and have moved to the countryside, into the desert, they have been in many ways in a much more friendly environment", Davis said.
The goal of the mission, in addition to killing al Qaeda leaders, was apparently to gather intelligence. News reports indicate the SEALs also killed a relative of Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born cleric who preached at a mosque attended by some of the 9/11 hijackers and who was also involved in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting and the attempt to bring down an airliner with an underwear bomb on Christmas Day 2009.
