Microsoft saw a gap in the market for affordable VR headsets that provide a better experience over a mobile-powered headset and is working with manufacturers to release a fleet of cheap VR headsets alongside its Windows 10 Creators update later this year. Microsoft also says that the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Development Edition headset is on the verge of shipping. Unlike the HoloLens goggles from Microsoft, these headsets will be opaque and won't allow users to see their physical surroundings along with holograms. Gesture tracking, another key pillar of the HoloLens experience, is also missing from the Acer HMD.
While the company didn't explicitly state this, presumably third-party mixed reality headsets that are headed to Windows 10 PCs for the massive Creators Update will work on the Xbox and Project Scorpio.
The roll-out of the developer kits will include the Acer headset, as well as a software development kit (SDK) which contains a Windows 10 Insider preview.
Microsoft will unveil more information about its Mixed Reality programme at its own Build conference in May.
Russian Airstrikes Hit US-Trained Force in Syria
Stephen Townsend told reporters at the Pentagon Wednesday. "It's a very hard and complicated area" in which to operate. The incident on Tuesday marked the second time in a month that Russian aircraft mistakenly attacked friendly forces.
Kipman demoed what is said to be the prototype of the Xbox mixed reality headset. Any user can head to their local game store, purchase an Xbox One and delve into its depths in order to develop and ship games for the console. The Facebook-owned VR firm said it will slash the cost of the Oculus Rift headset and Touch controllers to get more people interested in VR.
"Not only will you enjoy spectacular, immersive experiences, but also the things that you do most with your Windows PC - in mixed reality".
The Acer Windows Mixed Reality Development Edition headset will include built-in audio out and microphone support through 3.5 mm jack, as well as two high-resolution liquid crystal displays at 1440 x 1440 with a native display refresh rate up to 90 Hz. It'll be simple for developers to use to make the first games for Mixed Reality, and it'll eventually be simple for gamers to take advantage of this ecosystem. But in the future, consumers may be able to plug headsets like these into their Xbox game consoles to run augmented and virtual reality apps.
