"No other food company in the world has this reach and ability to be this convenient to so many customers through delivery", the company stated. In McDonald's top five markets (U.S., France, the U.K., Germany and Canada) almost 75% of the population lives within three miles of a McDonald's.
The company is launching mobile order-and-pay technology and curbside delivery in the fourth quarter of the year at all 14,000 of its USA restaurants. McDonald's China has tripled its delivery business since launching it in 2008, and a year ago alone, its delivery business in China grew by 30%.
The fast food chain already offers a delivery service in countries including China and Singapore, but this will be the first time customers in these five markets will get the chance to have their burger and fries delivered straight to their door.
McDonald's (mcd) is betting on new tech like mobile orders and payments to halt an exodus of US customers that has seen store visits fall by 500 million since 2012. The company also is turning more aggressively to digital technology, such as mobile ordering and payments, to meet its growth targets.
But on Wednesday, McDonald's admitted that it has lost 500 million potential transactions since 2012 to its fast-food competitors.
US FCC stays data security regulations for broadband providers
The stay on the data security provision will remain in place until the FCC can rule on the petitions for reconsideration. So going forward, we will work together to establish a technology-neutral privacy framework for the online world.
For 2019 and beyond, McDonald's said it expects to expand its operating margin from the high-20-per-cent range to the mid-40-per-cent range, as it sells more of its restaurants to franchisees and relies more heavily on royalty fees.
The service is also expected to launch in the US, Canada, France and Germany and for anyone who is anxious about the possibility of being served a side of cold chips, the company has made it clear that their new idea really does make sense. Numerous beverage and food places, from Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts to Domino's and Taco Bell, have mobile apps that allow customers to order and pay. Delivering food while it's still hot (or luke warm, let's be real it's Maccas we're talking about) will not be too much of a problem. Its delivery sales in China grew 30 percent in 2016.
For those who would rather not visit a McDonald's at all, the company said it is "experimenting with different delivery models" toexpand delivery services.
Trading of the company's stock had been halted earlier Wednesday as the company prepared to share its growth plans and "nonpublic information".
McDonald's also wants to rapidly roll out its Experience of the Future format into most of its restaurants by 2020.
