Sudheeran had suffered a rib injury after a fall last week in Kozhikode. A person capable to lead the party should be chosen, he said.
Leaderships of UDF allies Muslim League and Janata Dal (United) have expressed strong displeasure over KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran's decision to quit in a dramatic way. "Doctors said a complete recovery may take a few months". K Muraleedharan, who was also among those leaders considered for the post, made it clear on Saturday that he was not ready to take up the party post. "It is the time to fight against the anti-people policies of the state as well as the central government".
Sudheeran became president of the Kerala Students Union, the students' wing of Congress in 1971 and the president of KPSS on February 10, 2014. Reportedly, some A Group members had issued threats of an en masse resignation, if the party is not ready to remove Sudheeran. They had told the High Command that if they did not want to act on Sudheeran immediately, they should at least change him as part of organisational restructure. They insisted Sudheeran had no political reasons to resign.

He said: "It could have been a wee dig at Rangers ". " Clint Hill said on the pitch to me afterwards that he got away with that". It's disappointing for myself that I had two one-on-ones.
"I have always been a loyal soldier of the party and have always abided by the party decisions".
"This was not the situation when Karunakaran, Antony, Chandy and to a certain extend Ramesh Chennithala led the party from the front".
Earlier in the day, Sudheeran put in his papers after a three-year stint as the State Congress president. "The current circumstances never demanded to have the resignation of Mr Sudheeran", he said. Chandy has been sulking since the Assembly elections.
