That memorial will be available to live-stream via Debbie Reynolds' site starting at 1 p.m. PST. He invited friends of his mom like Dan Aykroyd and Ruta Lee.
A new song by Carrie Fisher's close friend, singer-songwriter James Blunt, was played over the video montage and there was a rendition of the Cyndi Lauper ballad True Colors by the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. For Debbie's son and Carrie's brother, Todd Fisher, it was important to make the event accessible to everyone.
"Carrie's life would never be the same", he said.
There were speeches of remembrance from Aykroyd - who was briefly engaged to Fisher in the 1970s before she Wednesday singer/songwriter Paul Simon - and Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz. He surmised that if he and Fisher had a child, given their personalities, "it would be Todd Fisher".
Ryan McBride: Derry City captain dies aged 27
McBride made his debut for Derry in 2011 and quickly became a fan favourite for his tough tackling defensive style. The FAI will pay tribute to McBride at Friday night's World Cup qualifier against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
Stars and fans will gather Saturday for a public memorial to honor late actresses Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. From what we could see, the memorial was attractive and touching but there was also a sadness to it. "She closed her eyes and went to sleep". He also observed, "Some of the best celebrity interviews are on WebMD".
Opening with an ode to Star Wars - the film that made Fisher a household name - a working R2D2 unit came on stage and mournfully beeped before parking next to a director's chair with Fisher's name on it. Everyone's favorite space robot "wept" until Todd Fisher knelt down to comfort him.
Reynolds, 84, who won moviegoers' hearts as a star of "Singin' in the Rain", suffered a brain hemorrhage the following day at the Beverly Hills estate the pair shared as she was making funeral arrangements. Fisher's death came first.
Describing his mother's final moment, Todd Fisher said: "It was a very peaceful exit that only my mother could have orchestrated". She said, 'I want to be with Carrie'. "If I'd been with our beloved showboat, I might have been able to save her again". I have film of that and it will be in the memorial.' And when I was editing that, it ripped my heart out. "Even though I didn't know them personally, they were people in my life, so I chose to come out and let them know that they had a lot of friends that they didn't know they had". I know that's tough.
