A national look at health trends shows Marion County in the bottom quarter of health indicators among OH counties, trailing all surrounding counties as well as state averages.
The trends in the past three years showed that Queens was improving in the areas of premature deaths, violent crime, air pollution, diabetes monitoring and number of uninsured individuals.

But numerous metrics within that category - including the 17 percent of residents who reported their health as "fair" or "poor" - were relatively stable, suggesting that Guilford County's lower ranking has more to do with improvements in other counties than health deteriorating here. Monroe County came in 23rd. There is one dentist for every 2,350 residents, which is 60 percent higher than state average of patient population per dentist, according to the release.
These young people are a "largely invisible" population that represent an 'untapped social and economic opportunity, ' Marjory Givens, an associate scientist with RWJF's county health program, told USA Today.
This year, the report took a special look at premature deaths - cases of those who die before the age of 75 - and found such deaths to be accelerating: In 2015, 1.22 million people died prematurely in the USA, nearly 40,000 people more than in 2014. For the two primary indicators, the county ranked 44th in health outcomes - down five steps - and 53rd in health factors - down nine.
The study, conducted for the past eight years, is created to bring attention to various factors used to assess a community's overall health.

Residents of Labette County in southeast Kansas took the unenviable title of Kansas' least-healthy people from Wyandotte County in the 2017 County Health Rankings released Wednesday. Premature deaths and drug overdoses were highest among whites and Native Americans.
Mark Holland, mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, said the county has tried to grab "low-hanging fruit", such as raising the age to purchase tobacco to deter teens from smoking.
Health factors include 30 measures that can describe the future health of the county's residents; these measures include health behaviors, clinical care, physical environment, and social and economic factors. Neighboring Union County also ranked high, finishing fourth in the rankings.
Unemployment, also based on 2014 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed the county's unemployment rate dropping to 4.5 percent, from 5.6 percent the previous year.
"I think it all works together along that continuum to help to have places where the community can kind of plug in where they need to and receive the kind of services that are appropriate to them and their particular health and wellness needs", she said. Nicholas County has a rate of 26 percent; Wyoming County, 25 percent; and Mercer, Fayette and Raleigh, 23 percent.
