Syndergaard struck out seven without a walk in his first opening day assignment, the only blemish a blister on the top of his right middle finger that ended his outing.
Noah Syndergaard pitched six scorless innings as the Mets beat the Braves on Opening Day Monday afternoon. Eric O'Flaherty came in, and Curtis Granderson hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Jose Reyes.
Atlanta starter Julio Teheran throttled the Mets as usual, throwing six scoreless innings before a sellout crowd of 44,384 at Citi Field.
Hansel Robles replaced Syndergaard to start the seventh and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to earn the win, which set the stage for New York's seventh inning rally.
Cabrera led the Mets with three hits in five at-bats, including the go-ahead RBI single. Gold Glove center fielder Ender Inciarte made a strong peg home, and Wilmer Flores initially was called out.
"That to me was the difference in the game, and that's what the great ones do", Terry Collins said. And we're going to miss that.

Perhaps that will change beginning Monday when the Mets host the Braves in the season opener for both teams at Citi Field. The Mets placed OF Juan Lagares (oblique), RHP Seth Lugo (right elbow), LHP Steven Matz (left elbow), OF Brandon Nimmo (right hamstring) and 3B David Wright (shoulder, neck) on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30. He'll attempt to get the rebuilding Braves off to a positive start against a team he's tormented lately.
