For the past season Phil Jackson has tried to push Carmelo Anthony out of NY, something that was hard to do because Jackson allowed Anthony to sign a contract with a no-trade clause. Joakim Noah, similar to Rose, is dealing with a major health setback (rotator cuff tear) and it is unknown if his stint with the team is going to be extended.
Speaking at a press conference after a season in which the Knicks failed to make the playoffs for a third straight campaign, Jackson indicated nine-time All-Star Anthony wasn't a good fit for the team's rebuilding plans.
"I think the direction with our team is that he would be better off somewhere else", Jackson told reporters. As the tension grew between the two, Anthony at one point said he wanted to remain with the Knicks and would not waive his no-trade clause.
Porzingis in February discussed one issue plaguing the team when he said there was confusion from "top to bottom" due to multiple changes in schemes by head coach Jeff Hornacek and the coaching staff over the course of the season.
Anthony hasn't necessarily been quiet about the situation either, as he chose to post on Instagram to what seemed to be directed at Phil Jackson after his not so favorited comments.

A 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday means sixth-place Arsenal are seven points off the top four with only eight matches left to play.
Perhaps one of the most telling parts of Jackson's press conference was when he was asked about NY failure to win close ball games in the season. But Anthony was eager to hear directly from Jackson. Once Phil Jackson assumed control of the Knicks in late 2014, the team has gone a combined 80-166 over the past three seasons. Once this materializes, Jackson just needs to find a business partner willing to accept Anthony.
How do you go after high-quality free agents who know the moment the teams starts to struggle Jackson will run to the media with some back-handed compliment or shade?
Many Knicks fans have been calling for their team to trade Anthony but their requests fell on deaf ears.
"He had a game he didn't take a three, which I told him that was important", Jackson said. Westbrook said there are other threats for the Rockets, who set the National Basketball Association record for 3-pointers made this season. The Knicks picked up Jackson's two-year option Thursday morning. "People see where we're going with this", he said.
