The UFC now has women's divisions at 145 pounds, 135 pounds and 115 pounds. The addition of a flyweight division would give the UFC four female weight classes.
The UFC began promoting women's fights in early 2013, and the rise in popularity of women's mixed martial arts was largely due to former 135-pound bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Also, females now on the UFC roster that can successfully make 125-pounds throughout the duration of the season are open to tryout. "The season will also be open to females on the current UFC roster that can successfully make 125-pounds throughout the duration of the season".
The release, sent by UFC public relations to media Wednesday, announced that tryouts would be held for TUF 26 on May 23 in Las Vegas.

The UFC already staged its first stand-alone flyweight fight last June, when Joanne Calderwood beat Valerie Letourneau by third-round stoppage.
