The office source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the visit, told CNN that a number of ministers meant to skip the ceremony at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport because it is expected to be brief, and Trump is only expected to shake the hands of Netanyahu and Rivlin.
Before meetings Monday with Netanyahu, the president and first lady Melania Trump will visit the Western Wall, an important Jewish holy site, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is believed to be where Jesus was crucified and the location of his tomb. Some expected he would make the announcement during his visit to Israel this week.
Trump used his visit to Riyadh to bolster USA ties with Arab and Islamic nations, announce $110 billion in US arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and send Iran a tough message.
Israeli forces also carried out raids in several neighbourhoods in occupied East Jerusalem. It is located in east Jerusalem, which Israel occupied in 1967 and later annexed in a move never recognised by the global community.

Rivlin tells Trump that "we are praying for peace and we are pushing for peace for the last 100 years and with god's help somebody will bring us peace".
Hier, who blessed the president during his January 20 inauguration, responded to Carter's comments: "Unfortunately, Jimmy Carter is the wrong person giving President Trump advice on how to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict".
Trump's remark during that news conference is the clearest statement of policy on the issue from the administration to date.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed all his Cabinet ministers to attend the official greeting for President Donald Trump, after some of them planned on skipping the event.
