Los Angeles added 27,173 residents between July 1, 2015, and June 30 of a year ago, the second-largest numeric population increase in the country, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Thursday.
The estimates reflect population change from July 2015 to July 2016.
Phoenix is also the quickest-growing city in the country, according to the Census Bureau. The number of big cities losing populations, just 5 in 2012, shot up to 14 previous year.
Hoover grew by about 4 percent or 3,359 people since 2010. But he's not trusting the numbers yet, he said.
On Thursday, local officials said it was incumbent upon leaders to face Huntington's problems head-on. That's 283 people than PSU estimated. Vernal lost 3.9 percent of its residents, or about 433 people, between 2015 and 2016 - the largest decline in the state in terms of raw numbers. That brought its growth in the decade to 13,553 new residents, and its total population above 105,000.
When it comes to small towns, the Northeast saw the most population decline, dropping by 0.5 percent between 2015 and 2016.
Failure to provide adequate resources before the once-a-decade population count will force the Census Bureau to short-change operations created to improve accuracy in historically undercounted communities.
However, large cities in the South and West dominated the list of the 15 fastest-growing cities between 2015 and 2016. Since the middle of the 20th century, when people started buying cars and building homes outside of cities en masse, the suburbs had maintained their edge. The city has lost 1,025 since the 2010 census.
