Washington- The testimony of former director of the FBI James Comey in a public hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday kept the doors open to speculations concerning US President Donald Trump's interference in the investigation on collusion with Russian Federation.
In his almost 2½-hour public testimony with the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described an interaction with Obama Attorney General Lynch during his agency's investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.
Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, seized on the admission, casting the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director as one of the "leakers" set on undermining the Trump administration.
The administration felt members of the lower chamber were not doing enough to push back against Democrats' allegation the president obstructed justice by asking Comey to back off looking into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, according to GOP sources.
At 6:10 a.m., Trump tweeted: "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication. and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" "Take this guy behind the warehouse and and have a New York City conversation with him".
"I was so stunned by the conversation that I just took it in".
He demurred when asked whether he thought Trump was obstructing justice, saying that matter should be left to the newly appointed special counsel, Robert Mueller, in whom he expressed confidence.
"My judgment was, 'I need to get that out into the public square, '" Comey said.
"It's my judgment that I was sacked because of the Russian Federation investigation", he told senators.
"If you just woke up from a coma and heard all of this at one time", said Noah, referring to the elaborate chain of events that led to Thursday's testimony, "you would be screaming down the street with your ass out in one of those gowns like, 'How is he still president?!'"
Eight killed, thousands displaced in Sth Africa storm
The strongest winter storm in recent years in Cape Town , South Africa, has claimed the lives of at least eight people. Around 700 structures have been affected by flooding, according to the City of Cape Town's Disaster Management.
Gee, I wonder why America hates Washington and Congress and the media so much.
"Those were lies, plain and simple", Comey said Thursday.
Comey said his distrust of Trump prompted him to take meticulous notes immediately after each of their nine discussions this year.
Mr Comey said Mr Trump told him at a meeting in the White House in February: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Mr Flynn go". But Comey only informed Trump that he was not personally being investigated at the time of their conversation-which does not rule out the possibility that Trump may now be under investigation.
"This story claims I defended President at hearing today but failed to include quote of me defending him", Rubio tweeted. "Lordy, I hope there are tapes".
"Although Mr. Comey testified he only leaked the memos in response to a tweet, the public record reveals that the New York Times was quoting from these memos the day before the referenced tweet".
"The conversation was not classified, and neither was the memo about it", Eisen, a CNN political commentator, said. But Trump showed no interest. Trump has repeatedly railed against the media, which has produced a constant drumbeat of stories based on leaked information describing the Russian Federation ties and alleged attempts by the White House to shut down the investigation.
Trump was uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter yesterday and only vaguely referenced the ongoing Russian Federation probe during remarks at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's annual conference around the same time Comey was testifying.
"He said, how about 6:30? I said whatever works for you, sir", Comey recalled.
"Then I hung up and called my wife and broke a date with her".
"That's one of the all-time great excuses for breaking it", quipped one of the senators at the hearing.
