Right after Anil Kumble's departure as India's head coach, several names have floated up as his potential replacements for the coveted job.
Mumbai:Former Indian medium pacer and current junior national chief selector Venkatesh Prasad has applied for the post of Indian cricket team's head coach.
Prasad worked with Lalchand Rajput, another candidate in the coaching race, in the capacity of a bowling coach during the World T20 in 2007, nurturing the likes of Ishant Sharma, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth and RP Singh as the team developed a strong core group of players post the 50-over World Cup debacle.
Watch: Relive Prasad at his very best. Of course, he shares a good rapport with Shastri and knows Virender Sehwag well. A lot of people have been applying for the team's head coach position including Virender Sehwag. He said, "May be I will write, but this is what I am very keen about (the support staff job)". "And I would like to contribute immensely with all the experience that I have got of playing and coaching", Prasad added. However, Goenka had tweeted his opinions much before the announcement of Ravi Shastri applying for the post made it to the news.

An "unsupported" operating system is one that has lapsed beyond Microsoft's 10-year product support policy. Today's critical security updates are in addition to the normal Patch Tuesday releases, Microsoft said.
Prasad, who played 33 Tests and 162 ODIs for India, is set to finish his three-year term as the junior India chief selector in September this year. According to the report the COA came to know about the matter only after the IPL 2017 final in Hyderabad. It is, however, mysterious that CoA head Vinod Rai didn't attend the meeting after the Champions Trophy final between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble, which turned out to be unpleasant in the end. "He felt let down after the episode", the source was quoted.
"If it was done to suit Shastri, it won't go down well with Viru, who, we must remember, was asked to apply in the first place".
The last date to apply for the coach's job is July 9 and the onus will again be on BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to choose the best man for the job.
