India booked their spot in the Final of Asia Cup 2017 with a convincing 4-0 victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 4s match at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday, Asian Hockey Federation reported. The Malaysian goalkeeper also joined the attack in the dying moments but they could not break the Indian defence and had to be content with the runners-up trophy - their best ever finish in this continental competition.
Ramandeep Singh scored the opening goal in the third minute while Lalit Upadhyay extended India's lead in the 29th minute of the game.
However, in September, the AFC chose to postpone the match for a third time after Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel ban on its citizens visiting North Korea. Muhammad Shahril Saabah raised Malaysia's hopes when he collected a cross outside the penalty box and scored in the 50th minute to reduce the deficit.
India continued to dominate the possession in the first quarter as Malaysia failed to produce any good opportunities.
