Grigor Dimitrov had already qualified for Saturday's ATP Finals semifinal when he stepped out onto court on Friday, but that didn't prevent him from blowing Pablo Carreno Busta off the court with a crushing 6-1, 6-1 victory. At 3-0 in the second set, Goffin was digging his heels into the game. Cheers of support for the underdog were soon muted by the hollers of "come on Roger!" at the beginning of the third set.
Grigor Dimitrov produced a second victory of the week against David Goffin to win the season-ending ATP Finals for the first time in his career on Sunday.
This was certainly a different Goffin; forcing Federer to counterattack with attack.
Despite Federer getting frustrated with himself and spurring himself on where his anger looked to be his motivation, Goffin did not slip up on his serve and instead seemed to have peaked in his service games, disallowing the Swiss from finding a way back.
Ten minutes later, having struggled for accuracy on first and second serves throughout, he failed to defend the fifth break point conceded in that game. "Against Roger, it was such a special moment, I can not describe", Goffin said after the match. "It's such an honour to play here", he added.
Asked how he had controlled his nerves when serving for the match, Dimitrov said: "You have to". Though Goffin showed some resilience by staying in the set with a tough hold having saved a set point, he crumbled on the return as Federer quickly closed out the first set 6-2 after 34 minutes. "I am lost for words - I am usually very good at that".
Apple delays release of HomePod speaker until early 2018
"We'll start shipping in the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia in early 2018", an Apple spokeswoman said via email. Priced at $349, Apple is setting the bar high for the smart speaker as a higher-end sound system like Sonos.
Down 0-3, Jack saved a crucial break point hitting a fast forehand, then he started to be more consistent and solid and broke back his opponent.
Sock now stands between Dimitrov and a place in the final but, with Dominic Thiem the only player to win more than two games against the world number six so far in the tournament, the American will need to produce his best to knock him out.
It was too close to call but two Sock double faults helped Dimitrov break for 5-3.
By now, Sock had won more games than Dimitrov had relinquished in his previous two games combined.
Sock won the ATP Finals shootout with Alexander Zverev, beating the German in three sets to secure a semi-final berth in their last group match. I'm sure neither one of us is going to think about that.
Dimitrov had blown four match points against Sock in Indian Wells earlier this year, and another in their meeting before that in Montreal in 2015.
