Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) has acquired startup company Blink. The e-Commerce giant has looked into ways of leaving packages in trunks of vehicles and having Amazon deliverers access customers' homes and leave the package inside.
Amazon is acquiring Blink, a brand that knows what it's doing when it comes to connected home surveillance equipment, likely in an effort to grow in that market. The video doorbell in particular may prove to be a significant pickup, since it costs less than half as much as Alphabet's competing $229 Nest Hello. Blink offers cameras for both indoor and outdoor use, which range in price from $99.99 to $129.99.
Amazon is making another big play for the smart home market, and is already well entrenched in millions of homes with its Echo family of AI smart speakers. "We're excited to welcome their team and invent together on behalf of customers", an Amazon spokesperson wrote in an email to Mashable.
Amazon's Alexa is getting more powerful by the day. Amazon has also been growing AmazonBasics, its division of home products.
