Police sources tell News 12 that Barry Wells is in custody and is being questioned in connection to his wife Tonie Wells' death.
Tonie Nicole Wells, who according to multiple reports was eight months pregnant with her second child, was discovered unresponsive on Wednesday morning at the bottom of the staircase leading to the basement in a three-story home in Crown Heights, which she shared with her newlywed husband, Barry Wells, and their two-year-old daughter.
The negligent NYPD officers who failed to check on a pregnant woman, who was found dead after reporting a domestic disturbance, have been suspended. Multiple calls were made to police before the discovery, indicating that there had been a loud argument and persistent crying coming from the couple's 2-year-old.
The officers supposedly responded to the home of Tonie Wells, 22, in Crown Heights on Wednesday at about 8:40 a.m., reported no signs of distress and then left. Bruises were found on her neck, and her husband, Barry Wells, was arrested.
Multiple victims reported in twin-engine Florida plane crash
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said there were "no survivors" of the crash at Bartow Municipal Airport in Bartow, Florida. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration investigators will probe the crash.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed Thursday that Internal Affairs is investigating the police response to a call for a wellness check at the home earlier that day.
While officers were dispatched to the Wells' Crown Heights residence, they didn't even get out of their auto to check on the woman, law enforcement sources told the Post.
"They didn't even go up to the house", a neighbor reportedly said. The NYPD worked with New Rochelle police to take Barry Wells into custody.
Deputy Chief Michael Kemper, Commanding Officer of Detective Borough Brooklyn North, told reporters that Wells' death was deemed suspicious. Police officials are also looking into whether the 911 dispatcher gave the officers complete information about the incident.
