The first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor is here. "Vivo says that this is world's first ready-to-produce smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and just to be clear, on the inside lies Synaptics" in-display fingerprint scanner, 'Clear ID'.
The Verge, which was able to go hands-on with the Vivo's in-display fingerprint sensor, reported that the process of setting up a fingerprint and using it unlock the device is the same as with conventional sensors. Vivo has not given details on the actual smartphone name, but this model comes with the new fingerprint technology, which can be placed under the display. Apple too was expected to come up with in-display TouchID but the company went ahead with FaceID facial recognition on the iPhone X. But at CES this year, a couple of handset players are incorporating the in-display fingerprint sensor to their smartphones, which are ready to go into mass production. These fingerprint sensors can be embedded inside the display and will be scratch-proof as well waterproof.
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has released a teaser revealing the company's under-display fingerprint sensor which the company is going to launch soon. Basically, every other fingerprint sensor these days is ridiculously fast and accurate, so with this being newer tech, its slight lag feels more palpable. These displays are typically edge-to-edge with a wide 18:9 aspect ratio.
James Franco brings Tommy Wiseau to the Golden Globes stage after win
Thanks to James Franco's movie, the two are now living the Hollywood dream that they always wanted almost two decades ago. That said, both Tommy and Greg were happy for Franco's win which was based on their own lives.
It's a similar story with Samsung's latest flagship smartphones, although it has shifted the fingerprint sensor to the rear of its devices rather than dispense with it completely. The upcoming smartphone in all likelihood will feature in-screen fingerprint sensor from Synaptics. It will allow users to unlock their smartphone through one-touch fingerprint scanning directly on the display itself.
According to the senior VP at Vivo (Alex Feng), the device will provide a more comfortable authentication experience and it will be officially announced early 2018.
CES 2018 has not been about smartphones much this time around, but that isn't stopping Vivo from making its presence felt.
