The company says its decision to take soda off the Happy Meal menu has had an impact: In December, 52 percent of Happy Meals ordered in the US included water, milk or juice, up from 38 percent in December 2013, according to McDonald's.
In the United States, customers will begin seeing the changes in June when the restaurants will list 600 calorie-or less meal options on the menus. The company said some are adding new menu items to comply, like in Italy, where a grilled chicken sandwich was added to the Happy Meal menu. The same goes for chocolate milk, which will be removed as an on-menu option while the current recipe is reformulated to reduce excess sugars. The company announced Thursday that by 2022, they will offer "more balanced" Happy Meals in 120 different markets around the world. "I see it as a treat and I don't mind getting my kids french fries or the cheeseburgers". "Notably, the two big changes - decreasing the size of the fries as well as nudging consumers to the hamburger as the default option - are both changes that decrease food costs".
Even though cheeseburgers and chocolate milk are being banished from the menu, kids can still order the items by request. McDonald's Canada went a step further in 2017 by making McNuggets - a top seller in Happy Meals - preservative-free as well as lower in calories and sodium.
Cheeseburgers will only be available in Happy Meals on request - part of McDonald's new global health commitment.
McDonald's used to promote the Happy Meal menu by giving toys to the children.
President Trump says it's up to Dems to protect 'Dreamers'
They are trying to come up with a solution on March 5th, when the DACA program protecting dreamers is supposed to end. Garaufis said the Trump administration relied on an "erroneous" belief the program was unconstitutional.
All U.S. Happy Meals will meet the new goals by June, according to the Post. All meal options will now be updated to contain only 600 calories or less, and will be compliant with new nutrition requirements centred around added sugars and saturated fats. So, the entire fast food industry should take stock and make healthy menus the norm for kids.
McDonald's doesn't say how much revenue it makes from the $3 Happy Meal, but the company said 30 percent of all visits come from families.
The move will cut down the meal's calories, sodium, saturated fat and sugar, which, I guess, is alright.
"There is also an increased choice of Happy Meal combinations, including semi-skimmed organic milk and mineral water and today, mums and dads can swap Fries for Carrot Sticks or a Fruit Bag". And chocolate milk won't be shown on the Happy Meal menu.
More people are attempting to lead healthier lifestyles and it seems that McDonald's is following the trend.
