Meteorologist Martin Bowles predicts snow will begin falling on Friday afternoon in Scotland and the north-east of England before blanketing the whole of the UK.
The warning stretches from the east coast, across the Midlands, down to London and the south coast.
Martin Hill, service manager for Dorset Highways operations, said: "Although the weather is forecast to get colder again this weekend, there is now no weather warning for Dorset".
"This will lower temperatures over the weekend".
Winds were strongest along southern areas at first but gradually extended to all parts of Leinster by late morning and afternoon. There will also be a significant wind chill, making it feel colder than the temperatures suggest. As this air crosses the North Sea snow showers will form on Sunday.

The BBC forecast now predicts a small amount of snow around shortly after midnight - and temperatures are likely to plunge below zero on Saturday and Sunday night.
The new warning, which is in force between 12.05am and 11.55pm on Saturday, is in addition to weather warnings that have already been issued for Friday and Sunday. As this band moves south-westwards, ice will form in places where skies clear.
