White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a post on Twitter late Thursday that Trump and McMaster have a "good working relationship" and claimed there are "no changes" at the National Security Council.
In recent days, reports have said the president is eyeing possible replacements for McMaster due to differences between the two.
Trump has complained that McMaster, a three-star Army general, is too rigid and that his briefings go on too long and seem irrelevant, the Post reported.
Sources also told CNN that the move for a replacement comes after months of tension and disagreement between McMaster and Trump.
On Thursday, Trump told reporters that more changes were likely.
General McMaster was appointed in February previous year following the resignation of Michael Flynn, who has since pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with the Russian government.
The news of McMaster's suspected removal comes after Trump on Tuesday sacked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, ending his short but tumultuous tenure as the nations chief diplomat. Finally, investors continue to worry about the prospects for a trade war arising from President Trump's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

According to the newspaper, the White House administration may undergo a bigger reshuffle that might concern some senior staff.
McMaster is not expected to be ousted immediately, the Post reported.
"Im really at a point where were getting very close to having the Cabinet and other things that I want", Trump said, moments after announcing Tillersons firing as well as his plan to install his close ally, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, in the job.
Some in the White House have been reluctant to oust McMaster from his national security perch until he has a promotion to four-star rank or other comfortable landing spot, aides said.
McMaster is not the only senior official on thin ice with the president.
McMaster, a three-star general, has had many public disagreements with the president, particularly over Iran and Russian Federation.
In recent weeks, McMaster played a central role in responding to messages from South Korea about North Korea's willingness to meet with the USA officials.
