Actress Cynthia Nixon (left) officially jumped into the race for governor of NY on Monday, setting off what promises to be a tumultuous six months as she challenges Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in this year's Democratic primary.
When asked if he was referring to Nixon's close ties to de Blasio, Cuomo's frequent political foe, Maloney simply said, "I'll let you fill in the blanks".
Earlier this year, while Nixon was picking up a Visibility Award at the Human Rights Campaign's New York Gala, she gave an impassioned speech attacking wealth inequality and "corporate Democrats".
'You have to be qualified and have experience.
At the kickoff event for her campaign on Tuesday, Ms. Nixon laced into Mr. Cuomo, a two-term governor.
While Nixon has been an education activist for many years, her fame could cut both ways in the coming months. George Arzt, a Democratic political consultant, said that Ms. Nixon's name recognition may allow her to do better than the last candidate to challenge the governor in the party's primary in 2014. "But she's never run an organization".

"Andrew Cuomo gave the Republican Party in New York State the power to block nearly all of our big Democratic legislative priorities", Nixon said.

She released a video that emphasized her areas of concern for the state, such as fixing mass incarceration and New York City's "broken" subway system, and addressing health care. I worked alongside her in the marriage fight, and I believe she was incredibly eloquent and incredibly effective.
A day after officially announcing her New York State gubernatorial run, Cynthia Nixon delivered a fiery speech in front of nearly 100 local residents and reporters in Brownsville yesterday.
Thankfully, Nixon's former co-stars also believe that the Grammy, Emmy and three-time Tony winning actress may just be the ideal woman to knock Gov. Cuomo from his seat.
