Cathy Yan has been tapped to direct a Birds of Prey feature film for Warner Bros. and DC. She made her feature debut when she released "Dead Pigs", which won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance earlier this year.
DC Comics' Birds of Prey are an worldwide crimefighting team featuring heroines such as Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) and the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli). The script was written by Christina Hodson, who wrote the "Transformers" spinoff "Bumblebee" and was hired to replace Joss Whedon in penning the "Batgirl" movie.
Although many details of the film are not yet known, it will reportedly be produced in part by Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment production company, with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment also being involved with the upcoming production.
Yan previously worked at the Wall Street Journal, becoming one of the paper's youngest reporters to land multiple stories on the front page. Yan reportedly put together a stellar presentation for her vision of the film. Suicide Squad 2, directed by Gavin O'Connor, is supposedly on the way.
Hoeness defends Bayern's conduct in Kovac approach
However, according to reports in January , the Colombian would look to leave Bayern if Heynckes were not to extend his own deal and manage next season.
Namely Gal Godot as Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins who directed the film of the same name which has been a massive success, and Margot Robbie's outstanding performance as Harley Quinn as one of the few positives of Suicide Squad.
This is an exciting career step for Yan, a rare female director to break into Hollywood's tradition of giving blockbusters to filmmakers with just a well-received indie or two to their name (think Colin Trevorrow or Jon Watts). She will also be the first Asian woman to helm a movie from the DC Comics universe.
Cathy Yan met with the Warner Bros. and DCEU duo of Walter Hamada and Geoff Johns for her pitch on a Birds of Prey film. The dream is to have cameras rolling at the end of the year after Margot Robbie completes work on Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
