The Bears completed a blockbuster trade with the Oakland Raiders Saturday, bolstering their defense in a monumental way by acquiring star pass rusher Khalil Mack. The Raiders will have to figure out a way to replace the production of a player who went to three straight Pro Bowls, and was the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, while there is a lesser chance of hitting with the Raiders' package, there is also higher variance and the chance of multiple good players with the two picks and the additional money to spend. "He brings a ton on the field, but he really fits what we are building in our locker room, too". The Raiders had the fifth-year option for Mack plus two franchise tags in their pocket so it seemed that they were playing hardball with Mack.
Oakland dealt Mack in part because the two sides could not come to a contract agreement. The Bears sent a first round pick in 2019 and one in 2020 for Mack and also kicked in a 2020 3rd round pick, but the Raiders also kicked in a 2020 second back to Chicago.
The Bears knocked this out of the park, as they ensured Mack didn't hold out any longer and isn't tempted to test the waters of free agency when his contract is up after this season.
The Mack holdout was one of the most ridiculous things the National Football League has seen play out in a while.

However, this area could slowly develop further into early next week toward South Florida or the Gulf of Mexico. September 13 - Gabrielle weakens into a tropical depression, then into a tropical cyclone, before dissipating.
"We want to keep our best players", McKenzie would consistently say, while asking (joking?) at the owners meetings in March if anyone had $100 million to lend him to help pay Mack. They replaced him with Nagy and gave Trubisky - the No. 2 overall draft pick previous year - some new playmaking targets, most notably former Jacksonville Pro Bowl receiver Allen Robinson. He later wrote, "What a shock". Mack has played in every game for Oakland the past four seasons, with 231 primary tackles, 40 1/2 sacks, and nine forced fumbles.
Oakland hosts the Rams on 10 September. However, Mack should provide nothing but positives once he gets acclimated in the Bears' front seven.
Like Brown, Hatcher spent last season on the Silver and Black's practice squad, but after an out-of-this-world performance Thursday night against the Seahawks, the Raiders made sure Hatcher was one of their final 53 players. They had already loaded up around quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
He was conditionally reinstated a year ago and played in 15 games for Pittsburgh with eight starts, but reportedly asked for a trade last season since he didn't feel he was getting the ball enough.
In Chicago, Mack will now join a loaded Bears defense that includes Roquan Smith, Akiem Hicks, Leonard Floyd and Danny Trevathan.
