The court's aim is to bring to justice the perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Mr Bolton, who has been particularly vocal in his opposition to the court, attacked two areas of its work in a speech on Monday.

French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll said in a statement on Tuesday that the country will continue to cooperate and support the ICC financially along with the other European nations.
The US is not a state party to the ICC, but Afghanistan is.
"We are talking about thousands of people who are regularly in need of these consular services, be it things related to marriage and divorce, doing any kind of business, adding a phone line to a business they already have existing in the Palestinian territories or any of that stuff", Omar Baddar, the deputy director of the pro-Palestinian Arab American Institute, told Al-Monitor.
Judges and prosecutors with the International Criminal Court (ICC) would be barred from entering the U.S. and their funds in the United States would be sanctioned. "The United States supports a direct and robust peace process, and we will not allow the ICC, or any other organization, to constrain Israel's right to self-defense".
In a speech in Washington, Mr Bolton said: "If the court comes after us, we will not sit quietly".
Among the responses, Mr. Bolton says, the USA would ban ICC judges and prosecutors from entering the country.
The ICC is reported to be on the verge of bringing prosecutions into alleged war crimes committed by United States military and intelligence staff during the war in Afghanistan.
