Amazon doesn't disclose sales numbers for the Echo, but has previously said "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices sold worldwide.
Amazon is tipped to reveal a few of these gadgets at an event later this month. Alexa has pushed Amazon to become a leader in home automation, with an assortment of home accessories deeply integrated into the platform.

Activists clutching banners reading "Weed are free now" and Rastafari flags gathered outside the court in central Johannesburg. South Africa's government had opposed its legalisation, arguing the drug was "harmful" to people's health.
Amazon has already made a point of making it as easy as possible for developers to build their own Alexa devices. Amazon reportedly has a minimum of 8 Alexa-based hardware devices in the pipeline, all of them now unannounced, that will potentially be available to purchase for the holidays. Now it is now one of the most popular voice assistants, leading the growth of the burgeoning smart speaker market, which is expected to be worth $30 billion by 2024, according to Global Market Insights. If CNBC's report is correct, it's clear that Amazon wants some of those products to be under its own umbrella even if that means expanding into new categories like kitchen appliances. Sonos has an Alexa-compatible amplifier and subwoofer, while GE has a microwave that can be connected to Alexa. Now, it seems Amazon is hoping to take things a step further with a clutch of new devices. With this new venture, Amazon will be establishing a proper ecosystem with its range of smart speakers and the new home appliances. The company is reported to be working on a secretive home robot, as well, according to Bloomberg.
If the new devices are made and sold by Amazon, they would be in direct competition with similar devices made by Sonos and Garmin. But it looks like the e-commerce firm is planning to expand its hardware portfolio drastically with as many as eight devices if the latest report by CNBC holds some weight.
