Lisa Murkowski revealed that she's deeply troubled by attempted rape allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh - and played a key role in ensuring that accuser Christine Blasey Ford will be able to testify against him.
"They know it's a con game".
After a dramatic week long standoff, Kavanaugh's accuser Ford finally committed Sunday to be questioned in a public hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is weighing Kavanaugh's nomination. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared Monday that Kavanaugh will receive a confirmation vote on the Senate floor "in the near future".
Mr Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied allegations that he molested Christine Blasey Ford at a school party in 1982, and that he exposed himself to Deborah Ramirez while at college.
"I've always treated women with dignity and respect", Kavanaugh said, using a phrase that he repeated another three times.
Ramirez admitted to the New Yorker that there are gaps in her memory of the incident, and that she expects her memories to be questioned as she had been under the influence of alcohol. In the meantime, Kavanaugh has denied all claims and President Trump has supported his nominee saying "In my opinion, it's totally political.".
The latest sexual assault allegation dated back to the 1983-84 academic school year, when Justice Kavanaugh was a freshman at Yale University, The New Yorker said, adding that at least two Senate Democrats were investigating the allegation.
European Union to SNUB Trump and continue trading with Tehran
The EU, US allies, and the global nuclear watchdog, IAEA, maintain that Iran continues to abide by the terms of the agreement. The US administration reintroduced the previous sanctions while imposing new ones on the Islamic Republic.
Schumer says "he should apologize to her immediately".
"I am not questioning and have not questioned that perhaps Dr Ford, at some point in her life, was sexually assaulted by someone in some place".
Any new nominee to the Supreme Court will likely not be confirmed in time for the November 6 USA midterm elections. They want the FBI to reopen its background investigation of Mr Kavanaugh and look into the allegations against him. "It is galling - galling for the Republican leader who has done more than maybe anyone else to politicize the Supreme Court nomination process, to make these trumped up, hyperbolic charges".
She alleges, he drunkenly tried to remove her clothing, pinned her to a bed and covered her mouth at a high school party when she was 15 and he was 17. This is a smear, plain and simple.
With pressure mounting to put Kavanaugh's nomination on hold for the FBI to investigate his past - a day after a second woman came forward with allegations against him - Trump stood firmly behind his embattled nominee, accusing Democrats of working hard to "destroy a wonderful man". "A woman who was present, another woman who was present who was Dr. Ford's lifelong friend has said she doesn't know me and never remembers being at a party with me at any time in her life". She adds, "This is a country where you're innocent until proven guilty except when you're a conservative Republican". Brett Kavanaugh is an absolutely outstanding person. Dianne Feinstein. Kavanaugh said he would not be intimidated into withdrawing and called the accusations a "coordinated effort" of smears.
It would only take a single Republican going against Kavanaugh for the nomination not to be confirmed.
"The second accuser has nothing".
"If Kavanaugh really wanted to get to the truth, he'd go to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not Fox News", she said.
